Essential Guidelines

Bring Proper Identification:

  • Ensure you have a valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license, passport, or state ID card). The ID must be current and not expired

Review Document Requirements:

  •  Verify that the document you are having notarized is complete and filled out properly. The notary cannot notarize blank or incomplete documents.
  • Check for any specific instructions provided by the entity requesting the notarization.

Do Not Sign in Advance:

  • Do not sign the document before meeting with the notary. The notary must witness your signature.

Ensure Names Match:

  • Make sure the name on your ID matches the name on the document. If there are any discrepancies, address them before the notarization.

Bring All Required Parties:

  • If the document requires multiple signatures (e.g., co-signers or witnesses), ensure all parties are present with their IDs.

Understand the Document:

  • Have a clear understanding of the document you are signing. The notary is not responsible for explaining the contents, and they cannot notarize if you appear unaware or unsure of what you are signing.
